Leveling up characters requires the accumulation of Experience (EXP). Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn allows every player character to level up and progress every class and job in the game, given enough time.
These classes are focused more on gathering resources and crafting finished products for personal use or for selling to other players.
Players may later also choose more mundane crafting and harvesting classes, the Disciple of Land or the Disciple of Hand. Players then get to choose their Combat Class: Disciple of War or Disciple of Magic, which is further expanded by the traditional roles of Tank, DPS, and Healing to the more Final Fantasy-specific jobs such as Paladin, Monk, Dragoon, Summoner, and many others.
